Interdisciplinary Study
Natural science perspectives are apparently insufficient to fully diagnose challenges facing our fishery and aquaculture that are closely related to people, communities and economy. One of the goals China Blue pursues is how to integrate perspectives and techniques of anthropology, sociology and economics into the analysis of China’s fishery sustainability issues.
Diverse Minds
As long as you are passionate about ocean sustainability, whether you are from an NGO, industry, research institute or administrative sector, you are more than welcome to join us, a team of multiple backgrounds that bring diverse wisdom.
Innovative Approach
We eagerly learn but do not adhere rigidly to the Western methodology and technology. Rather, we are committed to creating integrated fishery management models and evaluation system respecting China’s society and culture, thereby promoting China’s voice in the international discourse of sustainable fishery.
Ongoing Projects
iFISH, China’s Seafood Sustainability Database
With science-based information, we help Chinese seafood retailers and buyers to identify environmental and social sustainability risks in their supply chains. We encourage them to support their producers in practice improvements that lower the risks and sustain the exploitation of fishery resources.
Aquaculture Improvement Project (AIP)
We facilitate aquaculture zonal management led by industry association through developing and enforcing the Code of Good Practices. By reducing tilapia farming’s adverse impacts on the environment, lowering the risks of regional disease outbreak, and strengthening food safety control, the AIP will eventually build Hainan tilapia’s competence against sustainability challenges.
Fishery Improvement Project (FIP)
We convene all stakeholders in supply chain to jointly improve the resource management of coastal fisheries as we explore new model and means to sustainably manage China’s coastal fisheries with government and research institutes. The FIP of Squid Fishery, for example, will hopefully restore fishing grounds and sustain the squid fishery in the region.
